Khor Virap is about the view: a walled monastery on a mound with Ararat filling the sky behind it. Mornings are clear and afternoons are hazy, so these 15 are compared on departure time first, then on what else they bolt on, and what the day costs.

The guide did a great job providing information to both the English and Russian speakers. There was also an intern guide named Jasmine who was extremely helpful and informative in answering my questions. If she was able to stand up to all of my niche history questions then I think she’d be able to answer anyone’s questions and would make a great guide.”

The only downside was the vehicle - it was poorly maintained and broke down several times and the air conditioning didn’t work for most of the 12hr journey in 40C heat, which was a challenge with children. The tour guide and driver did their best to deal with it though and we did enjoy the trip.”
